Local Finds at Shops at 5807

Let’s talk about one of RVA’s many eclectic, fun, local gift shops!

The Shops at 5807 is a concept store, owned by sisters Leigh Johnson and Anne Brasfield, located at 5807 Patterson Avenue. It’s a unique shopping experience for the customer, as well as a unique experience for the retailer. There are over 20 unique shops, at all price points, all under one roof. Where else can you walk out with a baby gift, a new lamp for your desk, an RVA print and a beautiful new scarf?

One afternoon, Leigh had a flat tire and stopped in to use a phone book. The building was a salon that was broken down into pods. Immediately, she thought “this is how we could use this space; we could divide up the pods by retailers.”

Anne’s shop, Frillseekers, had been on Grove Avenue for over 13 years and she was looking for a change. She met Leigh at the building and they both agreed this was the perfect spot for the Shops at 5807.

Leigh and Anne opened the shops over a decade ago and have provided customers with a fun, unique shopping experience ever since. The staff are talented and knowledgeable about each individual retailer.

The challenge in any retail shop today is the online market. Anything and everything can be found online today and can be on your door step in a matter of days (or in some cases, hours). However, Leigh and Anne have found that Richmonders are loyal and dedicated customers who understand the importance of supporting local businesses.

“Our mission is to wow our customers with excellent customer service,” states Anne. When I shop there, it’s easy to see that the staff know what’s available in all of the shops. They led me to some cute bracelets, one of which was the perfect gift for my teen daughter.

The diversity of retail shops is a delicate balancing act. “We like to be sure we carry different types of products and different types of shops for all of our different customer needs,” states Leigh.

Not only are they committed to exemplary customer service, they’re also committed to the RVA community. They participate regularly in charitable events and private parties, including shopping nights, ladies nights, donating items to local schools and non-profits and supporting countless local organizations.

Leigh and Anne not only manage the Shops, but also own their own shop so they’re able to see the business from all sides – shop owner, retailer within the shop and loyal customer. This enables them to give the best shopping experience to all.

I think it’s pretty great to find so many unique options in one stop.  Plus, free complimentary (and very cute) gift wrapping is available for every purchase as a great bonus!
