Mark your calendars for the PRAI 5k Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run at Westchester Commons in Midlothian on September 30, 2017.
What is PRAI?
PRAI stands for PANS Research Advocacy Initiative.
Did you know that 1 in 200 children are estimated to suffer from PANS and PANDAS which are types of PAE (Post-Infectious Autoimmune Encephalopathy)?
The primary goal of the race is to fund research aimed at advancing our understanding of the complex interactions between the immune and nervous systems so we can identify effective treatments for our children.
RVA is excited to host Virginia’s first fundraiser for PAE. PAE causes crippling OCD, severe anxiety, tics, ADHD, aggression, sleep disturbances, mood swings and severe personality changes. Most commonly parents describe their experience as “losing their child, seemingly overnight.”
The PRAI 5k will be held on September 30, 2017 as we head into October which is PANS awareness month. We hope to bring over 500 registered runners and walkers to this race and many more to the community event following. Post-race events will include a kids fun area with face painting, moon bounce, rock painting, over 30 vendors, silent auction/raffle prizes, special guests, and characters.
PRAI 5K Sponsorships
PAE is incredibly under-funded, making community fundraisers critical to providing the much-needed funds for our children who suffer so profoundly. Discovering the number of children misdiagnosed and undiagnosed as having autism, ADHD, Anxiety Disorders, Mood Disorders, OCD and Tourette’s would surely make PAE a public health crisis. The more we can learn about the basic mechanisms of what is happening in the body of our children, the closer we are to finding answers.
