I love sweets but I’m not a big pie lover…but maybe it’s just because I haven’t had one that I actually love.
One of my dear friends loves pie. That’s her choice of dessert, which seems so crazy to me. For her birthday, I gave her a trip to Proper Pie in Church Hill. I figured it would be fun for both of us. Fun for her because she doesn’t get outside of her West End bubble enough…and fun for me because I just always choose ice cream. Usually, Gelati Celesti.
Specifically, chocolate decadence.
But not today. Today we choose pie.
We bust out of our comfort zones and spend a Saturday afternoon in Church Hill.
Proper Pie is a quaint, busy little bakery with a rotating menu of sweet and savory pies. We checked their Facebook page before going to be sure there was a pie we’d like…and there were several! Too many to choose from actually.
Whether you’re looking for a savory meat pie, or something rich and sweet – Proper Pie has it all. They even have soup and delicious coffee, lattes, cappuccino, and macchiato plus much more.
I chose Key Lime Pie, and I must admit, it was the best pie I’ve ever had. It was a perfect balance of tart and sweet. My friend chose Cherry Pie and loved it too…again, that perfect balance.
The place was hopping. It doesn’t have much seating, but we were able to grab a table and catch up for a while. People were in and out ordering all kinds of pies while we were there.
I ended up taking home some chocolate pie, pecan pie and apple pie, along with homemade whipped cream to top it all off. I had some happy people when I walked in the door with a bag full of sweets.
A little skeptical because it was pie, but just like I did, they all became instant fans with the first bite.
