RVA’s Celebrity Bloggers

A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to spend some time chatting with John and Sherry… RVA’s own celebrity bloggers and the dynamic duo behind Young House Love. Their popular blog, book, coloring book (so fun!) and now podcasts (love them!) have been my personal favorites for many years.

So imagine how excited I was to chat with them!

A Fun Day in RVA

John & Sherry love RVA as much as we do. “One of our favorite spots when we have out-of-town guests is the VMFA. It’s awesome and it’s free.”

I have to agree…RVA is so lucky to have a nationally known museum with some pretty amazing exhibits.

Another family favorite is Pony Pasture. “It’s beautiful, quiet and a great place for kids and dogs to run around and get some energy out!”

Some fun kid-friendly favorite places to eat include Southbound and Plaza Azteca for some homemade guacamole.

RVA Date Nights

RVA has more than enough options for some pretty great date nights! John & Sherry recently spent a fun night with friends at the RVA Escape Room, breaking the code and unlocking the door with only 4 minutes left…just in the nick of time! Dinner at Peter Chang’s was a fun way to debrief how they escaped!

Another fun date night is the Comedy Coalition. I’ve personally heard about it but have never been so it was great to hear Sherry’s take on this fun night. A nice dinner at one of the many fabulous restaurants RVA has to offer and a night of laughing sounds like the perfect date night to me!

Cinebistro is always a fun date night too…food and movie all in one place?!”

Shopping in RVA

I’ve loved YHL blog for so long because I love their design style…plus I love that it not only looks beautiful, but is practical, comfortable and usually fits into my budget. It doesn’t get much better than that! So I had to ask…where do you shop in RVA?

Some of their favorites include Diversity Thrift and the Love of Jesus Thrift, plus Habitat for Humanity Restore. At these places, you can find anything from a dresser to a cool chandelier.

“It’s fun to visit the beautiful showrooms in places like Williams and Sherrill and UFAB. You get the see the finished product, but then you can find some older pieces at these thrift stores and bring them back to life.”

And that’s always been one of my favorite things about YHL…their fun DIY projects. They’ve inspired me in all kinds of home projects.  We’ve given an old (very cheap) gold mirror a makeover with some hot pink paint, some really old hand me down furniture new life with white glossy paint and made a new headboard for my daughter’s bedroom.

Sherry loves hitting up some fun craft fairs and RVA has lots of them. She especially loves visiting the Buford Road Pharmacy to pick up some unique handmade gifts, fun and yummy-smelling soaps and Carrie Walters’ beautiful paper flowers.

“It’s money well spent because they never die.”

Be sure to check out the RVA Living blog often – because we get to know Carrie and the story behind her amazing flowers in an upcoming “Behind the Business”.

For fun gifts (or just some fun finds for yourself), John and Sherry can always find something interesting and unique at Mongrel in Carytown and Fountain Bookstore.

It was such a treat chatting with John and Sherry, our hometown celebrity bloggers. They’re fun, down-to-earth and love all things RVA. And we love them!
