Spreading JOY through celebration!

I had the pleasure to sit down and chat with Julia Warren, the founder of Celebrate! RVA and this girl is the real deal! This is an amazing organization – I was so excited to learn more.

Celebrate! RVA is a non-profit organization with a simple mission – to give disadvantaged children in Richmond a memorable birthday celebration in a safe and fun environment. I can’t even imagine having never celebrated my birthday, with at least a cake and some gifts. But these kids can. Their birthdays come and go…without even getting the chance to blow out a single candle.

Who is Julia?

Julia has felt passionately about this since a young age. She founded and organized Celebrate! RVA when she was still in high school. The week before Julia had to make a really tough decision on what to do about college – stay close to home or move out to Texas and attend Texas A&M which is a family tradition – she was leading a birthday party for Celebrate! RVA. She noticed a sweet little boy quietly sitting in the corner. He wasn’t even sure what to do with all of the fun and celebration around him. This sweet child just didn’t understand that these people were celebrating him. They were celebrating the day he was born.

Julia’s eyes just lit up as she told me about putting a birthday candle in front of this sweet boy, for the first time. The first time. The first time he had a candle to blow out to celebrate another year of life.

Can you even imagine? Most of us can’t.

Julia is full of passion, love, energy and enthusiasm. She has a heart for these kids. She has a heart for RVA. And Celebrate! RVA is making a difference.  A huge difference in our RVA community…one celebration at a time.

Making a Difference

There’s one moment at each Celebrate! RVA party – that one special moment when each child gets to close his or her eyes, make a wish and blow out his or her very own candle. And that moment, is pure joy for those children and for Julia, who works so hard to make sure that happens.

“It’s so important to me that each child gets to blow out his or her own candle. I want them to know they matter.”

Julia is celebrating another year of life for these precious kids and RVA Living celebrates her!

Did you know that it only takes a one-time $15 donation to sponsor a birthday child? Or you can donate your birthday so that a child can celebrate and enjoy his or her special day. You can learn more about ways to volunteer or better yet, get tickets to attend the Celebrate Soiree at the beautiful Graduate Hotel on September 23rd!
