The Daily Kitchen & Bar has two locations in Richmond, VA — Carytown and Short Pump. It is owned by the Richmond Restaurant Group which also owns The Hard Shell Downtown, The Hard Shell Bellgrade, The Hill Cafe, East Coast Provisions, Pearl Raw Bar & The Vintage Room at Pearl. So we knew it just had to be a Richmond favorite. The newest location recently opened in Short Pump and we decided to give it a try.
We weren’t disappointed!
Stepping inside the Short Pump location is like walking into an oasis. The furnishings and decor are fresh and clean. The atmosphere was very inviting – from the minute our hostess greeted us with a smile.
Since we arrived mid-morning, we were just in time for brunch or lunch – so we had a little of both. Because — well — why not?
The menu was filled with a variety of appetizers and entrees to please the health conscious. The Daily uses organic, all natural, local and sustainable ingredients, which makes it even more appealing to us locals. Starting with a sparkling bottle of water was first on the menu.
Our server was very friendly and helpful – and she definitely knew all about the food and how it was prepared. She remained attentive throughout our visit to ensure our beverages stayed full and answered all of our questions about the food and preparation.
Since there were several of us, we were able to order and share different entrees.
The special of the day was an incredibly delicious chicken quiche filled with fresh red peppers, creamy cheese, and served with a side of mixed greens tossed in a light balsamic vinaigarette. This had to be the best quiche I’ve ever tasted – the tender chicken was perfection and the crust was light and flaky. The salad was fresh and the vinaigrette was light and clean – just right!
Of course, no brunch is complete without home fries and a ham and cheese omelette filled with fresh roma tomatoes, peppers, and onions. And these home fries were so light and flavorful! The omelette was fluffy and wrapped with fresh organic vegetables.
On the heartier side, the Angus burger with cheddar cheese, lettuce, red onion, and tomato on a fresh lightly toasted brioche bun was also perfection! Lunch entrees come with a choice of sides including quinoa tabbouleh, side salad, french fries, sweet potato fries, or chick pea salad. The side salad was the right choice with this double-patty burger.
Specialties for The Daily every day are their ‘bowls’, which include several varieties such as Curried Lentil, Burrito, Miso, and Portobella Mushroom. The Stir Fry with all natural shrimp is a big favorite according to our server so that was our choice. It included brown rice, snow peas, broccolini, carrots, cabbage, peppers, onions, and spicy sesame soy sauce. This is absolutely, hands down, the best stir fry I’ve ever tasted. Flavorful but not too heavily spiced and a large serving for sure.
We will definitely head back to The Daily for brunch, lunch, and dinner over the coming months to explore more of their mouthwatering treats in the relaxed atmosphere.
Not only is it a great place for families, it’s also a great place for a date – and the fully stocked bar has plenty to offer. With Valentine’s Day coming up, we may just give it a try for a date night (hint, hint).
